Barye Lion Statue (Mt. Vernon Place)

without comments

Location: Washington Place & W Mount Vernon Place – (Street View)

Created by Antoine-Louis Barye, the lion was a gift of William Walters.  West mount Vernon Place, the park where the sculpture rests, has changed a great deal since the statue’s initial installation, yet the monument has stayed in the same spot through the years.  Barye also created the four statues surrounding the Washington Monument.  The lion is a replica, the original being in the Tuileres Gardens in France.
